We can advise on the likelyhood of snakes being present, or help you to make your home snake free. We can also offer advice on how to live in their presence as they also need some where to live. With Melbourne's current urban expansion, suitable habitat for these animals is disappearing.

If you see a snake on your property:

• Don't go near it.
• And make sure nobody else goes near it, especially children!
• Keep pets away.
• Call us to remove it. Snakes are protected by law.
• Try to keep an eye on it from a safe distance so as not to alarm it and keep yourself safe. If it disappears it can be difficult to find it again.

If a snake feels threatened it will actively defend itself, it won't chase after you. Snakes don't have very good eyesight and don't see you as a threat if you stand still. They will usually move on. Otherwise just move away from it and call us to move it along safely.

Snakes are protected and should only be approached by an experienced snake handler. Many people are bitten every year because they try to remove them themselves. Most snakes found around Melbourne are highly venomous. It's not worth the risk!

This was an unexpected removal from the Cann River service station. A large Red-bellied black snake had dropped in for a visit. Despite not being equipped, for the snakes sake it was promptly removed before one of the locals got to it with a shovel.
