Copperhead
Austrelaps superbus
Description:
Light-grey through to reddish-brown or dark-brown to black above. Belly cream. Often mistaken for eastern Brown or Red Belly Black snakes. It can be distinguished from the latter by the pale edging to the lip scales. Grows to over 1.7 metres
Habits:Commonly found near freshwater and moist low-lying areas such as woodlands or heath woodlands, also in tussock grasslands. Active both day and night. Also active in cooler sunny weather.
